The Seido Difference

The purpose of establishing Seido Karate was to teach what its founder, Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura, felt was the true essence of karate: the training of body, mind, and spirit together in order to realize the fullness of human potential.

What to Expect

We are a serious martial arts school looking for highly motivated men and women who are interested in improving themselves both physically and mentally. At Seido Karate, the competition is with yourself, not with others. We are not concerned whether you are better or worse than someone else. Our only goal is that each day, when you leave, you are a little better than when you came. We provide you with the program, supervision, and atmosphere that will allow you to realize your full potential for growth and achievement.

Beginner Classes

When you start, you attend special classes for beginners. These classes allow you to ease into the program slowly and safely. It is not necessary that you have any previous karate experience or that you are in good physical condition. You progress at a pace consistent with your ability and level of fitness. You are neither moved too fast nor held back. If you have previous experience or are in good physical condition, you can progress more quickly. If you need more time to develop, you will not feel pressured. Everyone is treated as an individual.

Physical Fitness

Seido Karate provides you with a complete program in physical conditioning. Our exercises are safe, effective, and tailored to your individual needs. Each class begins with stretching to help prevent injury or soreness, and our progressive stretching exercises will help you to develop and maintain a flexible, limber body. Karate training utilizes virtually every muscle in your body. The physical training can be strenuous and emphasizes progressive development of strength, coordination, stamina, and aerobic capacity.

Seido Meditation

True karate develops both the mind and the body. Seido meditation is a time-proven method for developing a calm, focused mind. Through our meditation program, you will achieve the ability to concentrate more fully and think more clearly. Meditation is incorporated into every class. In addition, we have separate classes that focus on strengthening and improving your meditation skills. Our meditation, combined with our karate training, develops a quality we call "Bushido Spirit," which means a non-quitting attitude that can be applied to every aspect of one's life. Whether making career changes, going back to school, solidifying personal relationships, or improving work performance, our students have found their Seido Karate experience of great benefit.

Self-Defense

Seido Karate is one of the most effective and efficient forms of self-defense available. You learn to use your entire body as a weapon, developing the ability to defend yourself against assailants much larger and stronger than yourself. Hand, elbow, knee, and foot techniques are taught based on their effectiveness and practical application in street situations. Men and women, old and young, have found Seido Karate to be a practical tool for personal safety, because of both the physical training and the increased confidence it instills. Self-defense training is an insurance policy against the hazards of city living.
